"Who is the man who wants life and wants to see happy days?" If you, upon hearing it, answer "I", God tells you: "If you want to possess true and eternal life, keep your tongue from evil, and that your lips do not speak falsely. Turn away from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it". (RB, Foreword)

Cenobite Monks are those who live in a monastery - vow of Stability - and who militate under a rule - vow of customary conversion - and an Abbot - vow of Obedience. (Cf. RB 1). These are the three vows that a novice takes when making the monastic profession. These define what we commit ourselves to, and this commitment made freely configures the monk, gives him character and gives him a particular IDENTITY.
